to a point yes it does, but then the absence can bee too long and one or both people start to lose 'that loving feeling'.
the secret is to keep in touch as much as possible. use a variety of different communication methods (email, sms, webcam, snail mail, flowers, presents, phone calls, and especially the surprise visits), because the point is to never let the other person forget just how much you love and miss them.
of course there has to be a planned future together, so keep emphasising that the distance is only temporary and soon you'll be together and when you are all the time spent apart will seem like a distant memory.
