Well I have a huge problem.. I just finnish taking a Mortgage Course on a weekend and now I have to go again for another weekend and I registered myself, for $100, for a Cram course. He doesnt want to give me Saturday, which is a day of a class, and monday, the day of the cram course, because supposevly those days are prohibited to take off. I have Sundays and tuesdays off and for one week im switching with a co-worker tuesday for friday. So really and truly im just requesting saturday and monday. And on top of everything, I have to move that weekend too. You would think that they would understand my situation, but they dont want to. I have 4 sick days to take but im just scared that if I take a sick day on one of the days I want to take off, that they'll fire me because they would already know what its not for a sickness. Please help me.. I really need some advise. I've already spoke to them and told them what I thought about their decision but they still wont budge..

The Cram course is non refundable and I cant attend another class another day because after this year, all the material that I learned is going to be changed, even the exam! So that would mean that I would have to pay to attend another class and another cram course and another test. Thats about $800 that im going to be spending, not including what im going to lose if I dont attend them this year.

Well if your current job has nothing to do with what you are schooling for that could be the problem. Since reasoning sounds like it won't work, you could try to get someone else to cover those days for you, however they could just deny you as well. They should know that they could be in trouble if they fire you for taking a sick day, I mean can they prove everyone else who has ever used a sick day was really sick? ( that is something to toss at them). Another thing that comes to mind is that this may be one of your life cross roads - WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO and what do you want to do in your life? If it is important to you and your life path for now you need to make it happen. I know a girl who had the same situation. She actually faked a back injury, went to the Dr. and got a note that covered her for time she needed to be off. She did not want to do that, but they forced her in a corner. Consider where you work --- will someone die if you don't show up? And remember when it comes down to it they are going to pick the company so the only one who can choose you is you. GOOD-LUCK!

Is there any way to reschecule the course, or lose $100 and register again at a later time that does not conflict with your job? If the boss won't budge, you may have to choose one or the other. It seems the $100 would be less of a loss than your job. You could also focus on moving that weekend instead of trying to do too much at once. Can the cram course wait or not?

If you think there is a chance you could convince your boss to let you trade days with a coworker, or trade 4 sick days for 2 personal days, ask and offer to put in extra work to make up for any inconvenience. If you think there is a personality conflict in the way, contact a mediator to act as a neutral facilitator who might help get past that so you can arrive at a workable schedule.

I would definitely take the sick days. They will probably be expecting it anyway. My guess is that they don't want to give you the days off because they think after you take these classes you'll start looking for a new job. So they are just doing this to spite you. That's not right!! Good luck with your classes and your situation.

Take the days off using your sick days. Your current employer does not sound interested in your future. They cannot fire you for using the sick days. They would have to find another reason. I would start looking for a job in the Mortgage industry.

It sounds like you HAVE to take the time off, for your own sake I mean, so just do it!
However, don't be too hard on your employer. They hired you to do a job on certain days and times and you can't fault them for expecting you to do it. I mean they ARE paying you, right? I don't believe they have the right to fire you for taking sick days that are alloted to you but it very well might affect your future growth with that company but it sounds like that is not a problem anyway, right? So I say, take the sick days, do what you have to do for yourself, and then start looking for a new job. GOOD LUCK!
