Both systems are measuring systems which are used in calculations. The same measuring units for different systems will vary, for example, the standard unit for length is the Meter for the Metric system and the yard for the imperial system (British).

Metric system is a French system. Many European countries now use this system.
Standard system, so called, is likely the system your country is using. It's possible that different counties are using different systems.

The metric or Systeme International (SI) system is used all over the world, the standard system is only used in the USA. According to the US Metric Conversion act of 1975 section 205b it is the declared policy of the US government that metric units must be used for everything except non-business activities. So if someone tries to sell you something in non-metric units, ask them if they are disloyal to the flag or non-businesslike or both. The SI system is a coherent set of units which aims at a single unit for each property, so length is always meters whether you're measuring the distance between atoms or galaxies. To avoid huge numbers, prefixes are used to multiply or divide the units by multiples of 10. The prefixes are the same whatever the property, so a millimeter is a thousandth of a meter and a millisecond is a thousandth of a second.
