Hundreds of people buy refurbished laptops every week. I can't tell whether you made a wise purchase without knowing what u bought and for how much, and what it included. However, it is safe to say that if you dealt with a reputable company, such as one of the mainstream manufacturers or one of the major refurb sellers, you are probably all right. I bought one direct from Dell by auction about a year and a half ago, and I was pleased with the deal I got. My only gripe is that the battery needed replacing after about 9 mos.
The most important thing is to understand what you are getting and what you are not getting. Read all the info available, and plan on buying software to load if necessary, etc.

If you get it from Dell, or Gateway, or another place that will still be in business should you start having problems, then maybe. However, I steer way clear of buying refurbished electronics because I don't want the possibility of having my docs disappear right before exams. And, the warranty often only covers the machine for a short time, which will leave you on the hook should it shut down on you. I believe that "cheap usually comes out expensive in the end", and when considering all of the things that I rely on my computer for, I just don't think it's worth the risk. And, I like the "new electronics" smell too. Refurbs don't smell good. LOL

Make sure you get a good warranty with it. You should have the right to return it for 30-60 days, and have any repairs covered for 6 months to a year.

As long as it comes from a reputable company with the same
warranty as a new one (at least a year) I actually prefer a refurb. It
costs less and I know a qualified tech has actually looked at to ensure
it is working properly.

its perfectly fine. Alot of computer parts are reused. All refurbished means is that someone bought it before you, either didnt like it, or part of it had a problem, they sent it back, the computer company fixed it, and put it back on the market

My sister bought a refurbished laptop for her husband serving military time in Iraq. It has worked wonderfully for him!

We got a refurbished one - direct from Dell. (I've been told they don't do that anymore.) There were some minor quirks, but it's been fine.

Check out the warranty first. It should be warrantied as if it was new.
