Your ipod is corrupted and you may need to restore your firmware. Go to apple.com and download the Ipod updater. (linked below). Once it's downloaded and installed, run the program and click restore iPod. MAKE SURE YOUR FILES ARE BACKED UP BEFORE YOU DO THIS. Restoring your ipod is basically erasing everything and restoring it to its original settings. If your files are all in your iTunes library, you will be able to plug your restored iPod in and reload it again with no problem. If you've done this and your problem still has not been fixed, it may be a hard-drive issue. If it's still under manufacturer's warranty, take it to an Apple store. If you have bought an extended service plan, take it to the place you bought it.

My Ipod did the same thing. When I took it to the Apple Store the man just took it and gave me another one. So I guess it was something bad and is a common problem. I would just take it to an Apple store and see what they do.
