I'm a Snake! ('89)

Well let me explain the 12 signs.
In brief, the origin of the 12 signs are basically the first 12 animals to cross the finish line, in a race.
So in order:
Rat (won by riding on the ox, then jumping of at the last minute to win)
Ox
Tiger
Rabbit
Dragon (I'd think it'd be fast)
Snake
Horse
Sheep (Ram)
Monkey
Chicken
Dog
Pig

Of course, the animals are limited to animals you fins in China (and/or surrounding areas) so things like the cheetah were not even in consideration. Plus this system is very old....but that's all I know, because it's the type of story that my mother would tell me, like the equivlenant (sp) of parents telling fairy tales- except now the Chinese do that too.

Tiger.
Funny story about Chinese Zodiac(at least if you have kids)... My family went to dinner at a Chinese restaurant when my daughter was about 4 years old. Like most Chinese restaurants they had the place mats with the Chinese Zodiac on it. My daughter was born in the Year of the C*ck (a fact that she learned from the many times she insisted we go out for Chinese) This place mat happened to list it as Rooster though. My brother told her she was born in the Year of the Rooster and they argued back and forth for a couple of minutes. Finally my daughter got angry and yelled at the top of her voice... "Stop it! I'm a C*ck!" Needless to say it got very quiet in there as everyone turned to stare.
