There are a lot of people on this forum who do not understand the fundamental difference between 'rock' and 'rock and roll'. Freddie Mercury, Janis and Jim Morrison have nothing to do with the roll bit, only the rock. The best, the original killer, and still the absolute king of rock and roll, Jerry Lee Lewis..........the rest are just playing at it.

Difficult and interesting question...It has to be Jim Morrisson because of the perfect rock-star style he had al the way up to his final days. But I think that Phil Lynnot and Robert Page are painfully close ..The 70s-80's period gave us so many bads that make it painfull to choose.I would even think of people such as mountains Felix Pappalardi or John Phlps from mamas and papas as a great rock figures who never got the credit they deserved. It's only rock'n'roll after all. Or is it something more?
