If it helps, I am a liberal and do not think Christmas should be about anything other than God and Jesus (well, maybe Mary). Let's respect religious holidays for the distinct and beautiful experiences that they are, whether we observe them or not.

They don't hate Christmas. But I do agree they want a seperation of church and state. Kind of a tricky subject. The country was founded on religous freedom, but when god was inserted into our money, law, etc. the country was only made up of different sects of the Christian faith.
However, I think that the whole politicaly correct angle liberals have taken for the last two decades has gone to far when they go to Federal courts and have plaques of the ten commandments removed from legal institutions across the country.
I am not even Christian, but I know enough to understand that you can't change history, and our country had incorporated many aspects of the Christian faith and morality since its inception.
I can understand where you are coming from when they now fight to have this removed. My opinion, as a Hindu, it does not bother me. Christians, Hindus, Jewish we all have morals of faith that our similar, and I simply hope that these morals remain intact when this country is done ripping religion out of every facet of public/government institutions.

Maybe I am reading your question wrong, but are you saying that liberals can't be Christians and vice versa? I'm a liberal, but I am also a Christian (and not in that order). I don't hate Christmas either! You are generalizing a large population of people based on what?
As an educator, I will say that I feel a need to be considerate of people's religions, particularly in school. The fact is that this nation is made up of people from all backgrounds, nationalities and religions. No one should force their religion on anyone else, and that happens too often. If I have a student who doesn't celebrate Christmas, I am respecting of their views and feel everyone needs to be as well.

Not only is this question stupid but it is short sighted too. Christmas has become nothing more than a way for businesses to exploit the American people. It is a commercialized holiday that has lost ALL of its true meaning. How can anyone respect a holiday that is supposed to celebrate the birth of the Christian Savior yet is focused solely on which business can make a larger income. How perverted is that? I would guess Jesus is laughing his butt off about how commercial and cutthroat the holiday to support His birth has become.

I didn't realize Liberals hate Christmas. I'm liberal, as are most of my friends, and none of us hate it. I do admit I am a little sick of all of the commercialization of it though.
As far as why we expect Christians (a lot of Liberals happen to be Christian too you know)to be tolerant of others that have different beliefs than you, why shouldn't we? I always thought that the Christian faith taught you to love thy neighbor. Wouldn't that mean to be tolerant of their views also? I'm not saying that you have to believe the same thing, but just be accepting. If anything right wing Christians are the ones expecting everyone to believe the same way they do and try to force those beliefs down our throats.
One of the great things about the United States is that we have freedom of religion, but the Christian extremists are trying to do away with that. What ever happened to separation of church and state?

Get your facts straight. First, Christmas is not about the birth of Jesus, or Christ, or whatever you want to call him. The bible (your bible) clearly states that at the time of the little Bubba’s birth, the shepherds were tending their flocks in the hills – that would be their spring/summer feeding area. If you take your sheep to the upper fields in winter, they only get snowballs and cold dirt to eat.
So, you cannot even get the timing of the birth of your Bubba-Jesus correct. Second, people were celebrating the winter solstice long before there were any Christians.
So, in summary, your holiday is based on a lie and the theft of a non-Christian celebration of nature’s rebirth and renewal. And, let us not forget the underlying truth that everything you believe is imaginary and make-believe. That would seem to make Christmas a holiday for the Not-Honest and the Not-Sane. Yeah, I guess you are right after all…it is a celebration of Christianity.

could you be more specific? i dont know what you mean by hating christmas. what have they done to abolish christmas? please be specific.
i went to a catholic school, and had to do a lot of studying as to what the REAL meaning of christmas is, and let me tell you most of what you see out there has nothing to do with it. BUT, its still a nice time of year and i hold no grudge towards frosty the snowman and santa claus. hopefully we can all smile and laugh this season with our families.
also, i grew up around ppl of other religions, and to be honest, i didnt always remember who believed in what, so i got really used to saying "happy holidays" just because it was plain easier that way. and even if you dont care about the faith that others believe in, New Years comes right after christmas, thats 2 holidays.... PLURAL, so "happy holidays" isnt anti christmas, its just easier to say.
and really, if your tax dollars were spent on decorating the town hall during ramadan, or were used to build a statue of ganesh, i bet you'd be pissed.

How and why are you comparing Liberals to Christians? One is a political reference and one is a religious reference. The comparison would be Liberal to Conservative and Christian to Non-Christian.
Believe it or not, there are Liberal Christians. The nativity scene displayed in my house helps to remind me of what the glorious season of Christmas is. But do I think that people that don't share my beliefs should be forced to look at nativity scenes everywhere they go? Nope!

Bill O'Reilly and his ilk have succeeded in convincing a lot of gullible people that democrats hate Christmas. Anyone who thinks about it for 10 seconds will realize that the whole idea is ridiculous.

Could you state your source?
Every liberal I know loves Christmas. We love the oppertunity to spend time with loved ones, and we love that this is the one time in the year when one can talk of "peace and goodwill to all men" without being accused of being an unpatriotic, terrorist loving communist.
I think you're confusing liberals with white middle class bureaocrats who, in their rush to try not to offend anyone, manage to offend everyone including christians, muslims, jews, conservatives and liberals.
