Not all stories are "new." There are a lot of ready to go stories. 2/3 of news papers are generally advertisements. Newspapers generally also use wire services with stories and they have their own editor.

These presses are large and can print sheets very quickly. They are also folded. So basically several pages are printed at one time. The "old" stuff (features, advertisements, the opinion page) is printed throughout the day and the "new" stuff is the last stuff to print. Then the papers are shipped throughout the country overnight. The papers are then picked up at the shipping hubs around 4 a.m. then they are delivered to local hubs. Those hubs are then split up into zones. The zones then deliver the paper to the carriers which actually deliver the paper. So by 10 a.m. the papers have been delivered. Some papers might have their papers individually mailed to them overnight directly rather have their paper get sent the other way.

They probably print them all over the country, not just in New York, etc.
