The primary disadvantage is it is impersonal. It also tends to diminish the patient's self-sufficiency, since it is not a "club" they go to voluntarily, but a day care they do not necessarily choose for themselves.

Generally, this sort of thing should be an occasional necessity, grateful for a safe place to park grandma when necessary, but not a daily thing. If a person is to be at this facility every day, whatever the name of it, then it should be a voluntary decision on the part of the patient if at all possible.
