The rubber of the tyres helps ground the car so no one gets hurt. Also standing in open areas is pretty good. Lighting tends to hit the highest thing in the area so stay away from tall trees etc.

The car is one of the safest if you are out in an open area. However the safest place to be is your house or some sort of building. The reason why the car is the safest in an open field and their is nothing else around it has rubber and plastic which is a non conduit . Lightning is a huge jolt of electricity you need something to ground you so you won't be affected. Also lighting either goes from the ground up or from sky down.

The car is safe because the metal body of the vehicle is a much better conductor than your body, not because of the tires, that's a common misconception.
Going inside an enclosed structure should be the safest, even if it's just a cabin or a shed (just stay near the center away from the walls)
At all costs avoid standing under trees or going near water

The car is fairly safe but not due to the tires, the voltages involved, and damp conditions would care little of the resistance the tires have.
High Voltage static electricity may follow the path of a conductor, it is not necessarilly conducted. It is described as "skins". Therefore the person in the car is unaffected by the strike that skins over the metal.

A car is essentially a steel cage (AKA a Faraday Cage) surrounding you, conducting the lightning away from you and grounding it. It's relatively safe, but safer is a sturdy building, away from windows and doors, not in the tub nor on the phone or computer.
Lightning can travel through plumbing fixture and phone/cable and electric wires. Stay inside, in a central part of the house, and you'll be fine. If you're caught outside, stay away from open places, trees, flag poles, etc, and preferably in a vehicle.

A building is the best protection. A car with a metal roof, however, also offers very good protection not because of the tires, but because the metal frame of the car diverts the charge away from the people inside. Just don't touch anything metal that leads to the outside of the car.

the safest place to be is in a forest actually. Lightning always strikes the tallest object in the area. If you are in a forest, then the trees are the tallest objects. The worst place to be is in the middle of a ten acre field, because then you are the tallest object in the area

The safest place to be during a thunderstorm is in a building, preferably one with a lightning rod.

Actually airplanes are also a very good place to be. All along the plane is small lightning rods that just let the lightning pass through the plane. Planes get hit all the time. Most of the time its unnoticable.

the rubber tires make a car safe in the evant of a large electical serge. me personally would be with in a a hundred feet of a lighting rode but no closer than figty feet of it that is the safest place. so your house with that antana and the antana sould be not on the roof bot on a pole fifty feet from your house.
hope this helps
