I WOULD SAY VELVET SHOES & PURSE WOULD BE OVERKIILL. GO WITH SOMETHING SATINY. I DIFFERENT FABRIC & TEXTURE. MAYBE EVEN A DIFFERENT COLOR WOULD PLAY IT UP, LIKE RED OR A DEEP PLUM WOULD BE GORGEOUS FOR THE PURSE & IF YOU CAN'T FIND MATCHING SHOE COLOR, JUST GO WITH SOME BLACK HEELS OR STRAPPY SANDALS, WITH A MUTED BLACK COLOR. HAVE FUN WITH IT & DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT, IF YOU FEEL GOOD, & LOVE YOUR DRESS, PURSE & SHOES THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS:)
PS~ GO FOR COMFORT IF YOU'RE GONNA BE DANCING, MAYBE BUY SOME DR. SCHOLLS SHOE INSERTS, THEY HAVE ONES FOR LADIES SHOES NOW:)

Velvet shoes would not be tacky at all. You always, always look the best and most dressy in one color. Velvet pumps with rounded heels and an ankle strap would be very cute- and a matching black velvet purse is a must-have! It's so nice to look all together, when everyone else looks thrown together. :)

No, it's not tacky to wear velvet shoes. And you don't need to match your purse to your shoes. In fact, when you are planning on a black dress, it would be smarter to add a splash of color with your purse.
Try red or green to play into the holiday look in a satin bag for a touch of shine to your look. Or a metallic (gold or silver) bag for a bit of glitz and glam with the black. Pink would also work.

Why just ask the ladies ? (sorry girls !)
Velvet shoes.... Uuh uhh, no way ! Possible strappy heels with velvet on them as part of a motif, but not totally vevlet.
Shoes and purse ALWAYS need to match.
Enjoy your ball !

if your dress i s super cute and you love it, then it's best to match it up, cuz you want to get more of everyones attention to your dress, rather than on your purse and shoes...so if the dress looks a little bit more purply-reddish, or black-reddish, use the purple or reddish purse and shoes, so the black stands out more...do you get what I am getting at?
There definetly is no doubt on black shoes....they are more dressy, classy, and formal...for sure...now girl get down with it!

No. I would say strappy black heals. Maybe a purse that is both satin/velvet. Have fun.

No velvet shoes!! Try not to be too matchy-matchy. Pair it with a pair of high heels and a cute clutch.

no girl. dont do that. that'll be too much velvet. I would get some stilletto type shoe that covers your foot but not too much so your foot is hidden yet enough so that your feet wont freeze off. have fun shoe shopping
