I am keeping control of the clutch and the accelerator when moving off, but it just seems to jerk and jump until the car reaches about 10 MPH and I have to accelerate more to avoid conking out. Once I change to 2nd gear and upwards the car runs fine....its a 2002 dynamique model. (PS - My dad has tried it and has the same problem).

you need to get the clutch sensitivity tuned .

if its too sensitive , the car jerks as soon as you start to take your foot off the pedal and it might turn off .

if its too hard , the car wont start moving till you move your foot completely off , plus it wears down the friction disc quickly (friction disc connects the engine to the gearbox)

theres a screw near the clutch pump that can be tightened or loosened to control the clutch sensitivity . it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes .

Take it back to the dealer and demonstrate to them what you are getting .You may have a fault with the clutch assembly or it could be an engine fault .Have you ever had a warnig light come up on the dash it would look like an engine block with a lightning flash in the center if so the engine ECU has picked up a fault that needs investigating.Remember if its 2002 its not a new car and you could be charged for work done.MIck

Might be that it could just do with a bit of a tune-up. If you've just bought it from a garage, I should take it back there & get 'em to fix it.

Otherwise, if you're not sure when it last had a service or that was a bit of a while ago, it would be an idea to have one done now, then you know where you are. Tell the garage/mechanic what's been happening while you're at it.

Hope that helps.

You should try changing the spark plug, this may help, some times it becomes clogged up with carbon, and the spark isnt good enough, this leads to the car clonking out. Spark plugs are cheap and you can take it out your self, all you need is a socket set, or a good shifter. Try cleaning it with a wire brush. When screwing it back in do not overtighten as you may damage the threads

Check your spark plugs arent worn out of covered in carbon. Also have a look at the condition of your air filter
