Could heve too do with excess steam when you are showering

I wish I knew. Sometimes ours goes off in the middle of the night. No reason -- no cooking, no fire, no smoke, no steam. It stops after awhile, sometimes three seconds, sometimes a couple of minutes. A neighbor said the same thing has happened to her. The only thing we can think of is that we live about 25 miles from a major naval air station and the planes that fly over us might have some electronic systems that set off our alarms, but that's a real stretch.

I agree with ridgid above... high humidity is a common cause for that problem. Once it is damaged though it may need to be replaced - removing the humidity won't neccessarily end the problem.

Check the batteries

In some models this indicates that the battery is low. Put new batteries in to see if that will help.
