Security suites tend to slow your computer a lot. Virus.gr did a test on anti-virus programs and Kaspersky v.6 ranked the highest, but the Active Virus Shield by aol is ranked second (well they both ranked the same on percent) anyways Active Virus Shield is based on kaspersky and it's free. The link is below

You can also play it safe with a separate firewall as stated before. Personally I like comodo.

RE:
What is the difference between anti-virus software and internet security suite software?
Is the anti-virus enough?? Or do I need a security suite?? Does the security suite slow down the computer or throw in annoying firewalls that block file sharing programs??
What is the best thing to do?
It seems if I go with a straight antivirus software I should get BitDefender....but Norton...

It all depends on what you do with your computer. If you do a lot of downloading and surfing I would suggest at least an anti-virus and spyware program.
The big different between a suite and just an anti-virus is the extras that come with the suite. You usually have a firewall, spyware program and a restore function within it. If you don't need all these bells and whistles, stick with just a straight anti-virus. A suite will most likely slow down your PC.
Best way, get your own firewall and anti-virus.

Greetings. My name's Sanjay Patel, and I currently hold an honorary Master's degree in the field of Computer Science. I am aware of, and have personal knowledge related to your question. There are computer maintenance businesses which are probably in your area, however they come at the cost of hiring a professional to enter your home. There may also be some local destinations where you can drop off your computer and wait to have a technician look at it. These options can often be costly, and pretty inconvenient. The answer to this question can probably be found doing a little extra research on Google.
A well-running computer can be a hard thing to maintain. From my experience, there is but only One software which is reputable- and consistently reliable for healing sick, slow computers. Reimage™ is a world-renown, easy to use software designed by Forensic scientists and made for the average person. This thing will fix literally just about ANY problem you could possibly be having with your PC. Reimage was recommended to me by a Professor during my 2nd year of Graduate school.

The major difference between antivirus software and internet security is that antivirus protects your system from viruses where as an internet security suite protects your system from various other malicious software.

It can be the same. Mostly the suites contain a virus
scanner. But in addition to that also a firewall and
sometimes more stuff (you don't really need).
BitDefender is a good one. Whatever you get you
don't want to get norton ;)
If you own XP you already have a firewall with SP2.
So you don't really need another one. You however
want one if you don't have XP with Sp2.
