I recieved a pair of silver leather gloves for my birthday. They fit wonderfully and are great driving gloves, but the color is hideous--everytime I wear them I feel like I look like a robot! Is there an easy way for me to dye over the silver and turn the gloves black or brown instead? Anything other than silver would do (other than gold or polka dot!). I have never dyed leather so I am pretty much a novice at this whole thing. Any advice would be appreciated!

I've dyed a pair of brown boots black and they turned out great! Just go to a shoe store or department store and buy a leather dye.salesperson will be able to help.First you apply a cleaning agent to remove dirts or polishes then apply new dye with a clean cloth.Allow to dry and buff or wipe to shine.Black easily covers other colors well.(It's not at all hard-good luck).

Dyeing from purple to black would be simple. Black to purple, well, that's a job! You'd first have to get the black out. Anything else is just going to make it darker. There's no way to cover up black with anything lighter than black. If you're really serious about this, you may have to bleach the area, then color it. But you'll probably never get all the black out. No way could you go from black to yellow, for example. Bleaching out most of the black and ending up with a grayish color might allow the purple to take. But then again, the amount of bleaching you'd have to do could possibly ruin the leather. It's a tough call however you do it.
