I have friends and acquaintances there but haven't had a chance to speak to them about this. What are your thoughts and opinions on this?

If by 'nation' they mean distinct people then that is fine. although we are all a distinct people. They are no better because they have descended from the french.
If they want a real separate nation then I suggest that we refuse them the right of using our money, remove all government offices and other Canadian businesses, charge them their share of the deficit (payable immediately), charge them for all legal fees and other costs incurred as the process continues and require passports for them to visit the rest of Canada. They should be cut off entirely from Canada. (Also we should give each section of Quebec the option of leaving with them or staying)
I am tired of this whole debate. Do they honestly believe they are the only 'distinct' people in this country?

I think of how the South tried to secede from the United States and Abraham Lincoln said the the Nation could not prevail if it allowed split-ups.

I couldn't care one way or another.
I hope if they succeed that the rest of Canada will charge them a toll. And they'll have to pay more for everything outside as they'll be foreigners then.
