Voting strictly along party lines is not democracy, it is a threat to democracy.

The voters need to take control of the House and Senate from the political parties. The parties make deals in exchange for donations to the national party. These donation are then distributed to loyal members or new candidates in races that may be vital. In exchange for these funds the candidates are expected to be loyal to the party line and vote to pay back the corporations, special interests and lobbyists that made the original donations.

So in effect the two party system has allowed the people we elect to represent us in congress to be hijacked by the party to serve the will of the corporations and special interests that donate to the party.

I am a moderate Independent and I've never hugged a tree in my life lol. I'm not an Independent to make things difficult for anyone. My right to vote as I see fit is the only motivation for me.
I rarely, very rarely, vote Independent. I vote Democratic or Republican depending on the state of the nation and the issues at hand. I tend to side with Democrats on social issues and the Republicans on economics. That's putting it a little too succintly, but it's a fair assessment of where I stand. I support same-sex marriage, but believe the draft should be reinstituted on a permanent basis. I think this war in Iraq is an obscenity based on lies, but I'm all for wiping out every terrorist walking this planet. I support stem cell research, but feel that much stricter controls should be placed on abortion. I think the legal system needs to overhaul our death penalty procedures, due to DNA and the amazing amount of people on death row who have been proven innocent due to DNA, but I do not want the death penalty abolished entirely. I could go on, and on, and on. But when I vote for a candidate I closely examine their platform and make informed decisions. What is wrong with this? I was proud to be one of the moderates who voted Democratic in the mid-terms and proud that they prevailed. We desperately needed checks and balances on Bush. Yep, I have opinions, and none of them involve fence-sitting or being a spoiler in elections.

I'm an Independent, I adhere to some ideals of the republicans as well as some ideals of the democrats.. but obviously you can't comprehend that, because for you, everything must be on a fine line. Only shades of black and white, right and wrong.

To fully understand something, you will need contrast, not complete adherence to a single ideal.

First of all, consider the "Great American Eagle"...its eyes,it's ears,it's heartbeat, it's major being,it's mind...etc. all being located in the center portion of the bird....the left, and right WINGS beating in the wind, each doing its share to keep the great bird moving ..IN THE SAME DIRECTION,neither better or less than the other, offsetting one another...We;ll give each wing, say 33%, that would be the people unable to vary from their self proclaimed beliefs,...that leaves 34% in the middle...the true difference makers....after the TWO WINGS have over ridden each other, the power lies in the middle...the votes that make a difference

I have an opinion both parties serve special interests and will continue to do so until we reform campaign contributions and lobbyism. Republicans need to move away from the Christian right ( log cabin style) and dems need to dis associate themselves from the jesse jackson, al sharptons, and noam chomsky's.

till all of that happens I'll take my stand issue per issue, independently.

Um because both parties are corrupt and no where is it written that you have to be either a Democrat or a Republican.
Why cant both those parties be disbanded?

Who are you to force somebody to choose out of two crappy parties? Actually, I wish we had more independents and other "viable" parties. This two party system sucks.

Why don't you agree with the founding precepts of this country, and allow everyone to have their own opinion and express it any way they want to, rather than trying to force them to conform to your ideas about politics?
