Yes it is true, as I spent 4 years at boarding school living with other girls. Recently, my period came early after spending the day with a friend who just got her period.
It is, if memory serves me correctly, because we unconsciously smell each other's scent, which affects the hormonal cycle. Scientists have still have not come up with a satisfactory answer as to what would be the biological/evolutionary purpose of this.

This is very true.
I was deployed on a Naval vessel for six months and those whose cycles weren't being regulated by the pill quickly aligned with each other. It's something about hormones and the pull of the moon (which determines all things naturally cyclical. My dotor also stated that the most powerful woman in the group's (the Queen B I guess) hormones also dictates where the cycles end up.
Don't know how true that last part is though.

That is actually a TRUTH.
I lived in a sorority house during college and it was true for us...and that was hell on the plumbing and the frat houses next door. MEOW! Hiss hiss hiss....30 woman an once!
Be lucky your a boy at times. Just remember, throw us CHOCOLATE and run the other way and we will let you live!
It has to do with hormones and a very "primal" mating cycle. The Alpha female has the strongest scents( we can't really smell them yet our bodys react to them). So all the other females cycle in or around hers. Its not just humans, its most mammals.

Yes, I had a friend whose secretary got on the same cycle as my friend. It happens a lot with women who are living or working closely together

Actually fairly true. Might have to do with nature kicking in so that women come into season all around the same time. You notice in nature most animals conceive/deliver around the same time. They live in close quarters. It's probably easier for their bodies to sync up.

I went to an all-girls school (not a boarding school, just a day school), and I swear, all 24 of us were sort of synched as far as our menstrual cycles went. It was odd, and I remember saying something to one of our teachers, a nun who lived in a few different convents over the years. She said that it always seemed to happen that way....

it is true. Three sisters raised together had their cycles 3 days apart.
I Haven't found out exactly why yet.
And if you want to ride a menstrual cycle , hop on . you will not enjoy the ride. It will be rough and painful..

All I know is that it seems to be true. I have three teenaged daughters and myself in our household. We are all on the same schedule as far as menstruation.
