Born on 29 December, 1953, Stanley "Tookie" Williams was executed by the state of California on 13 December of last year (2005), having been found guilty of murdering four people in 1979. He was a co-founder of The Crips -- the other original co-founder was killed in 1979 (not related to murders Mr. Williams was convincted of in 1981). While I respect his efforts to encourage inner city kids to avoid gangs and the gang lifestyle (as a public speaker and co-author of books) from prison, it doesn't change the fact he was found guilty of murdering those four people. The state of California chose to enforce the death penalty after over 20 years of appeals. This is a very emotionally charged and controversial question in Southern California, still, because it runs across race, death penalty, and victims' rights issues. I hope you get the answers you're seeking and are tolerant of others' views on this matter.
