In the absence of some psychological pathology; it is the manifestation of despair, defiance, or resolution that all is lost in earthly existence.
The suicidal person is significant because they have given up on all aspects associated with the activities of daily living for a variety of reasons.
Anger, frustration, pain, fear or some other impedance to happiness has prevailed to the point that life is no longer dear, there is nothing further to be done, and the person has reached the end of life's journey.
The significance of suicide is the tragedy or horror which accompanies the act of taking one's own life to those they leave behind.

I think for some it is a daily thought that affects how they live their lives. Some people live with so much suffering that they consider ways to stop it with suicide being one.
For those of us who have known someone who committed suicide the wondering never ceases. What could I have done to prevent it? Why did they do it? Why didn't I see the signs? Where did they go after life? What would have they done with the rest of their lives, had they lived? I think once you've known someone who has committed suicide whenever bad things happen to you in your life, you take a long, hard look at how bad it REALLY is. Then you think about the pain that the suicide caused those who remain and decide somehow to get through it.

Official statistics show that more that 31,000 Americans kill themselves every year. The true figure is probably higher. The number of non-fatal suicide attempts is considerably greater, often resulting in serious injuries, trauma to families and friends, and economic loss to our society.
Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people ages 15-24, and is the eleventh leading cause of death among all persons.
Suicide occurs across all ages, economic, social and ethnic boundaries.
Surviving family members not only suffer the trauma of losing a loved one to suicide, but are themselves at potentially higher risk of suicide and emotional problems.
Most suicidal persons desperately want to live. However, they are unable to see alternatives to their problems.
Most suicidal persons give definite warnings of their suicidal thoughts; but those closest to them are either unaware of the significance of these warnings or do not know how to respond to them.
From personal experience:
When you have a suicide in your family, it affects your day to day life because that person is no longer there for you to share life with. Even though the passing of time does make the pain not as severe, the moments when you wish that person was there to talk to, or share a significant moment, never cease. I lost my sister when I was 21 and she was 26. She left 3 young children behind that my mother, God bless her, raised to the best of her ability. On Mother's Day, it is sad that my sister isn't here to be with her kids. On her birthday, I can't say Happy Birthday to her. We knew she was in an unhappy marriage, but to this day we still can't believe she killed herself. My brother-in-law also committed suicide at the age of 21 and the fact that both an aunt and an uncle committed suicide looms large in the mind of my 27 year old son, who suffers from depression. It has been proven through statistical research that a family with a member who has commited suicide is more likely to suffer the same type of loss from other members of the family. So, to answer your question, the significance of suicide in our day to day life can be quite significant, if you lose someone you love to it. To the general population, I think that the more suicide is brought to people's minds, the more likely it will occur to them as a solution to problems that most likely have solutions, given time and help.

If you commit suicide you don't have a day to day life. If your asking about others I've had about a dozen friends kill themselves in the last 5 years so it has played a part in my life. If I didn't have a son to raise I would probably be with them.

I'm not sure what you mean but I think we don't give it much importance until we actually know about someone wanting to do it or after someone has done it!
It's sad and there should be more importance to it but at the same time I feel if it's out there more in peoples face more people that probably had not thought about it probably will as a resource to think about doing it.

I think its one of the saddest things in our lives today. There are so many ways to get help that people just dont know about. An exgirlfriend of mine tried to kill herself after we split up. Thank god shes ok now. We havent been the same since. changed my life.

For most of us suicide has no impact on our lives. Only if you know someone who takes their own life does it effect you!
No one knows for sure what happens after we die, so we can't answer that!
