Ok I am with this program where we teach English to people and I tutor this one Mexican girl who is 19 years old and pregnant with her 3rd child. She is an illegal immigrant and intentionally has kids cause she gets more money for each child. I am a liberal but I think reform is needed for our welfare system. She gets Medicaid, child support, additional welfare, free housing, daycare, etc. all from the state don't you think it is taken advantage of?? She's not even a citizen!

True Americans take advantage of the system as well. I don't mean to blame immigrants

It's a tough problem. Almost everyone wants to help someone who is genuinely down on his (or her) luck. But if people know assistance is there, some will rely on it and not try hard enough to better themselves. Even FDR said welfare has a "narcotic" effect.
Changes in laws change behavior. We "reward' poverty and so we may get more of it.
I guess in an ideal world, everyone would ignore the possibility of government transfer payments, or somehow there'd be a mechanism where only those who "truly tried their best" get government support.
Some states have stopped raising benefits when a "welfare mother" has another child. But then again, it's not the kid's fault.

Of course she is taking advantage of the system - but it is equally the fault of our system! Once they have an "anchor baby" then they are free to use our tax dollars to feed house and educate themselves and their baby (babies).
But you know what's even sadder - that Mexican families are using their daughters to gain access to this country. They are practically selling their 13 year old daughters to older men in Mexico - so that he can get her pregnant, have an anchor baby, and come to live in the U.S. My mom teaches middle school ESL (English as a Second Language) and says that here 13 and 14 year Mexican girls disappear all the time - I've heard lots of horror stories about these poor girls.

Well I think regardless of party or ideology most people agree that illegal immigration is not only bad for the economy but for the children often called "anchor babies" and being born simply for the mother's sake, which often leads to neglect and an endless cycle of poverty

Perhaps you aren't as liberal as you think. Or you may be liberal in some areas and conservative in others.
To answer your question, yes, the state is being taken advantage of and reform is needed.

I've seen the most pathetic posts here imaginable too. (e.g., blatant anti-republican sneering, lack of doubts about Obama's U.S. citizenship, etc.), and yes most of it still gets support by somebody who call such questions "interesting" by awarding a star.

People like that need education. They need to realize that having more children for short-term benefits is not good for anybody, including that girl.
