after the phone interview?

how important it is to send thank you letter after first phone interview? I am already told by HR that i will have 2nd face to face interview. If yes, do i need to send e-mail to HR and the person thanking them? i am in different state. thanks

It's always good to send out a thank you note or an email. I did one after each interview.
