find out what motivates the student. Some are competative with their peers and that alone is motivation. Others need to know that what they are working on translates into real world scenarios. Good Luck!

if your teaching little kids, then tell them that the student who u find works the best in class will get a treat at the end of the week/day (just use small things like candy or if there really llittle kids u can let them pick a sticker or sumthing) if there older give them pop quizes of what theyre supposed to be working on...OR my teacher when i was in high school, used to collect our work at the end of class and mark it, and if we didnt work, then it was our problem and we lost out

Find out why they aren't working. Is the stuff too hard? Too easy? Is there something going on with their home life? If it's just that the kid is easily distracted or immature in a way that he/she would rather play than study, make sure he's not distracting the other kids. Studying is a personal decision and habit when it comes down to it.

Incorporate games in the lesson plan and make it more fun for the kids. The games will hold their attention, they will learn something in the process, and also make the class go a little faster because God knows they just want to get outta there!
