its because the society is sexist. try to put up the image that the female sex is weaker, and there for need the male to be some kind of bodyguard. FOOLISH SOCIETY

Man is the stronger sex. More muscles, more logical thinking (these things are physiological)
And then there is the manners thing: Men are used to walking on the car-side of the sidewalk/pavement, are used to (or they did 40 years ago) pulling out your chair so that you could sit down at the restaurant table and such.
However, ultimately the woman has the power over the man since she is the one getting pregnant. She needs his income to raise the baby. She has to stay and raise it see? It is meant to be too hard to do it alone - that is what marriage is all about.

maybe this wont be the answer u r waiting but girls have more power over boys because they aren't so strong like guys and they need to be protected...and maybe if they help a girl they can become friends...
