The success of an ACL reconstruction depends a lot on the post-operative physiotherapy also. Make sure you do not do any shortcuts which may jeopardize your surgery. Read the question about that guy who will have his 4th ACL repair on the same knee? You wouldn't want that, I know.

LOTS of soldiers have ACL done, and continue to serve in the army, including Ranger battalions. Make SURE you're diligent with your physical therapy, despite the pain. Take your pain meds at least 30 mins before PT, so they can help during PT. Continue to do PT even after it's officially "over", to continue building leg strength. Using the knee will actually make it much stronger!
