You're talking about the "a" dropout in his "That's one small step for a man..." quote, which recent technology checks indicate he DID say, despite the critics.

Funny how a little tech glitch can follow you around all those years! (Personally, in my opinion, it's part of the reason he wanted to stay out of public view).

Actually, a closer examination of the recording indicated that Armstrong did say what he claims to have said for the last 35 years.

My favorite story about Apollo is that Jim Lovell told Armstrong that his first words on the moon should be "Oh my god, what the hell is that?" and then cut off his microphone.
Now that would have been the greatest practical joke of all time.
