Why does anyone?

Homosexuals are no different than anyone else. They deserve respect like everyone else. I'm so sick of people picking people apart when none of us are perfect. The homosexual community works, pays their bills and have upstanding members of society who contribute greatly to this country, and world, in general. Why should they NOT be accepted merely because they have fallen in love with someone with whom some people may not agree. None of us have any right to dictate and tell someone how they should live their lives. As long as they are good people and not hurting anyone, we should mind our own business.

When I saw your question, the first thing I thought was, "this person thinks that homosexuals should not be accepted in society."

I'm still thinking that, by the way.

Why do straight people feel a need to be accepted into society in general? Why do Asians, Hispanics, African-Americans, etc. . . .

From this example I'm sure you can see how blatently bigoted your question is. All of these groups ARE society, even hatemongering homophobes like you.

According to Maslow's hiearchy of needs, the most important needs are physiological - food, shelter, water. Social discrimination against homosexuals often gets in the way of meeting those needs; those who are openly gays are denied housing and employment because they are gay.
The next most important need is security, which again is interfered with by social intolerance - only this one affects closeted homosexuals as well (by hiding they can avoid discrimination, but fear of discovery impacts heavily on security.)
After that is the social need in general, and this one's fairly self explanatory: one cannot meet this need without social acceptance, because... well, that's pretty much what it is: a need for social acceptance.

The exact same reason that every other group needs to be accepted into society in general.

Let us be one.

Do straight people care if they are or aren't accepted as being straight?

I personally could care less what anyone thought of me... I'm bisexual and I get crap for it on both ends of the spectrum. Whether people think I'm bi because I want to have my cake and eat it too or because people think I'm loose.

I know I'm a good person, I know I'm a loyal partner as well. As long as I am comfortable with myself, what other people think is just what they think. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and, especially in America, it's something that has to be respected regardless. That's part of your freedoms as a person.

Do what you want with your life, feel how you want to feel, love who you want to love and don't judge anyone else for what's not right in your eyes. Every human should have the right to do as they please as long it's not harmfully affecting someone else's life.

If you are a genuinely good person you should be respected for that.

I think everyone wants to be accepted for who they are in life. I just want people to realize I am no better and I am no worse than the next berson just because I am in love with a man. I don't want any special treatment I just want fair and equal treatment. I respect everyone and do my best in life to be good to tohers, I just ask the same in return.

Rephrase: Why do people WANT to be accepted into society in general? Umm... er... wait... Because we're people? And we like it when we're in harmony? Um, do we have a Sociology 101 teacher in here?

Everyone everywhere has a need to be accepted.
It doesn't matter who you are, what you look like, how much money you make, what you believe in or anything else. It is a basic human need that cannot be suppressed.
Those who do try to suppress it are either dead, the mental ward or on their way to one or the other.
