i just turned 23, i have a permanent job in a finance-related job in UK. I have good education (upto Masters Degree) I am getting married next month. I am not mega rich, but I have enough money for things in life. I have a good to house to stay in. (rent) I have lived in quite a few places- India, Germany & UK & different places within India & UK. I am just entering marriage & I have been working now since15 months, but I have taken these commitments (proper job & marriage) early as compared to other people.
However, I have had very few friends in life. In fact, I have no friend now. I have had a rough past, at times suffering extreme depression & loneliness. I am an ex-alcoholic & alcohol has made me lose many things in the past including myself & a woman who I truly loved. I have been very & at times extremely unhappy ever since I was 10 for various reasons. Now I am quite happy whether I will be really be happy depends on my upcoming marriage. Am I a success or failure in life?

Sorry to hear that you're going through a period of difficulty. We all do at some point.
Do you know this woman you are marrying? Is she a stranger? Or do you know her well? If you know her well, than I would say she is your friend. If not, please comfort yourself with the love of your family and also remember that you are about to have an even larger family once the union is made.
My strongest advice to you is to pray, if you do. Ask for health, a successful marriage, continued success on your job, and no moments of unhappiness. You are still young. Try your best to enjoy life. Do acts of charity. Seeing other people happy makes me happy. Maybe it can work for you too. Best of luck. You're already a success to me.

Why don't you ask your fiancee. She obviously sees great things in you if she's willing to marry you. Why are you so concerned about the past? Look at what you have now (satisfaction with youself, happiness with her), if those are things that you want and those are things that you have, then at least some things in your life have become a success. And about having friends, she may be in a relationship with you, but you should also consider it a friendship. Developing friendships takes a time, and very often, after getting married, you lose some of your friendships anyway, so you make new friendships with other couples. This way you're just cutting out the part when you lose your partying, non-monogamous, (bad-influence) friends. Good luck w/ everything.

Your are only a failure if you never learn from past mistakes. And from what you have said you have really turned them into success. A successful person is one that always strives to better themselves. Be proud! You know the kind of person you could have been and you chose a different path, one with a positive outcome. Wealth does not define success, success is being able to turn something bad into good.

While you may have had a rough past, I think it is pretty clear that you have a lot going for you now. You shouldn't need to ask random people on Yahoo if you are successful or not because that is something that only you can measure by how happy you are with your life.

Considering all the things that have happened to you and you have overcome I'd say a very big success. You have traveled and seen parts of the world. Most 23 yr. old I know are still living at home with parents and no job.

You're a success!! You've beaten your depression and anxiety, you're no longer an alcoholic (for that alone, you're a success), you have a steady job, AND you're getting married. You're only 23? WOW! I say you're definitely a success in life and I hope you keep up the good work.

True happiness comes from within. Never depend on anyone to make you happy, that is something you must learn to do for yourself.

As long as you learn from your mistakes and move on, you are a success.
You are the one who has chosen to succeed. And you have.
