The ones that are still in working condition are donated to charities (a big one is Hopeline that gives the phones to battered women so they can call 911 if needed).

The ones that are not in working condition and their batteries are just recyled and used for new materials.

I heard they can donate old phones to the elderly. They program them for emergency calls only, such as 911 and there is no monthly cost to them.

They are recycled to help others that are in need.

old cell phones normally do for emergency call only, if demage ,do recycle ,crashing and reclaim back the gold . majority of component they contain gold (plated)

otherwise I think they just take them apart and grind it up separately
