I'm going back to college and a lot of the basic classes I need are offered by form of a CLEP test. This would save me a lot of time and money but I'm not sure if I should do it. Are they extremely hard? Would you equate them to a final exam?

I got 14 credits from my university for taking and passing the Clep tests. They are rigorous but if you know the subject well you should be able to do it. For example if you took Algebra, Geometry and Calculus or Trig in HS and passed you should easily be able to take that test. If you had regular English courses and are knowledgeable about Literature, you should be able to pass that test. They are harder than a final exam because they cover a lot more material than one final would.

I have taken several CLEP tests and I found them to be relatively easy as long as you study the relavent material. I would go to the library and pick out a textbook on the subject and read it. I did this and always got good scores on the CLEP tests. It is well worth the time and cost savings.

I have. And it depends on the school who's giving them to be honest. Pick a subject you're good with and see if that's being offered at the college who's offering the test.
