Everyone acts like they won't be able to get one if they don't stand in line or camp out in front of a store for hours on end. I mean just wait a few months and the price WILL go down! I remember when the Cabbage Patch dolls first came out and everyone was fighting each other to get one and the price was over $100 and now you can buy them for $20 or less! It's rediculess!

Cause there are so many people who fall into that whole marketing trap and believe that if it costs a lot, then it must be worth it. Believe it or not, if something is expensive, even if it's ugly and worthless, people will buy it just because it's expensive.

Because there's also a rich or a spoiled child or kid that wants it and there parents will then in turn be the final victims of the holiday hot toy price increase. If it's hot and supposedly "in limited supplies" it will have a high price because people will pay anything for a limited supplied item just before Christmas, it's all about greed mostly.

It all boils down to Economics and the laws of Supply and Demand.

Supply and demand is perhaps one of the most fundamental concepts of economics and it is the backbone of a market economy. Demand refers to how much (quantity) of a product or service is desired by buyers. The quantity demanded is the amount of a product people are willing to buy at a certain price; the relationship between price and quantity demanded is known as the demand relationship. Supply represents how much the market can offer. The quantity supplied refers to the amount of a certain good producers are willing to supply when receiving a certain price. The correlation between price and how much of a good or service is supplied to the market is known as the supply relationship. Price, therefore, is a reflection of supply and demand.

Its called step function marketing and it is very popular with X-mas toys and clothes. The retailer or manufacturer will sell at a given price (high) until demand has slacked. Then they will step down to the next price and sell at that level until demand has slacked, then the next price and so on. That is why you can find such amazing sales on women's clothes that haven't moved toward the end of a season.

supply and demand; if the supply is short and the demand high, then the companies can ask, and usually get, a higher price; just like with the new PS3; they didn't make as many units as people who wanted them so the price was jacked up to $600 and even higher on E-Bay!

Supply and demand. The merchandise is completely hyped-up by advertisers so everyone thinks they need it, then the manufacturer only sells "X" number of the item. It's one of the oldest marketing ploys in the book.
