(3a-2xy) + (5xy - 7a) = 3a - 2xy + 5xy - 7a
pair the same with same:
= 3a - 7a - 2xy + 5xy subtract a-s with a-s and xy-s with xy-s
= -4a + 3xy
since a, b, c usually represent coefficients in the equation (e.g. ax+b), they should go to the end:
= 3xy - 4a
