period of 15 seconds. Sometimes but rarely it can be my chin and sometimes it happens just prior to falling asleep.

Sometimes bits of you fall asleep at different times. Is your bedroom warm enough?

I remember waking up one morning, trying to scratch my nose and nothing happened - my arm was still dead to the world, sleeping away and it took about 5 minutes to wake it up properly.

If you're worried though, do go and see a doctor, who might be able to refer you to a neurologist if necessary.
