I like the strong, silent type in the beginning. After awhile though you want to get to know someone and also know that they feel comfortable around you. A strong, silent type can come off as being unhappy, bored, unemotional, unpredicatable, ect. And THIS is what makes someone else feel uncomfortable or unpleasant.

The silent type has nothing to contribute to a relationship if he's, well, silent. It may be okay at first but a woman (well at least this woman) prefers interaction and conversation. If I have to take the guy's pulse to make sure he's still alive, he's not for me. I've been there and it's not fun.

like everyone we look for clues to know what we're saying is making sense and going over well with the person. Women tend to relate better to vebal responces (although some would argue we do better or just as well with body langage due to our attention to details).
since we are such verbal creaures we like those around us to talk back. I think the most annoying/unpleasent thing about Strong-silent types is the fact that you dn't know what they're thinking and worry about what they think about you.

I don't know about unpleasant, but it can be uncomfortable if you are just standing or sitting around with someone who doesn't talk and you have nothing else to do. If you are with someone who doesn't talk much, it's best to have some kind of activity or project you are working on together. You can work in silence, but just sitting in silence for long periods of time is awkward.

depends if she is a meek insecure type. its all dependent on the temperament of the people in the room. if they are easily intimidated they could very well be unpleasant around the type you mention, but some women are not phased by these types as they have an inner strength that isnt easily pushed around by aloof people.

Yes. I do. I find it difficult to make conversation or small talk with someone who only grunts back. They usually make me think of the cliche "all brawn, no brains" which I know is a stereotype, but I prefer men who will make an attempt to communicate. I don't want to have to do all the work. If you like me, let me know a little!
