Our jails are filled with people that have not done harm to anyone else but themselves by taking drugs. If they were legalized we might be better able to control the use. It would certainly take the profit out of drugs and cut down on that side of criminality. Besides, the government can tax them and maybe cut some of the taxes that we pay for this unwinable "war on drugs."

I think drugs should be legalized.
1) People should be allowed personal freedoms as long as no one else is hurt. If you commit a crime while on drugs you should be punished, however, if you sit at home you have committed no crime.
2) It could be regulated and taxed just like cigarettes and alcohol.
3) All the drug violence would end just like the violence ending with the repeal of prohibition.
4) Crime in Colombia and Mexico would decrease and drug lords would lose all their power.
5) It seems like a failure of separating church and state to legislate morality.

Depends on which drugs.
Some drugs in Amsterdam can be used no problem with the law, no short supply , no dealers, and dealers are the biggest problem about drugs. It cut out a lot of dealers and that can only be good.
BTW Holland also chucked out the Christian Democratic party not long back, lots of people have stopped going to church, another good thing about Holland.

Anything that is a victimless crime (drugs, gambling, prostitution) should be legal. Adults should be able to make their own decisions and act responsibly. The government should not force morality on the people.

7 million Americans are in prison, on probation or parole, that's 1 of every 32 adults.
Almost half of them are there for non-violent drug offenses.
It costs more to keep someone in jail than it does to give them a college education.
You don't have to make drugs legal, just stop putting them in jail for what amounts to a mental health issue.

There are already tons of legal pharmaceutical drugs, not to mention coffee and tobacco. I never was sure why marijuana got such a bad rap. "Reefer madness", oh no, look out for those stoners laid up on the couch with the munchies!
