I've been on sinking ships. There is never anything good that happens if you stick around other than you get a paycheck.

The company's products and services get worse and worse, and the customers get totally p*ssed and take it out on the employees (you). Stuff that needs to happen doesn't happen.

The boss starts ranting and chewing butt to raise morale, and believes that the problem is that he/she just can't get people to do their jobs.

Then the employees start leaving. The best ones are gone first, leaving the place even worse off. Every time a person dresses up people accuse them of going to a job interview.

Soooo... do you want to work in a place like this? If not... start looking now, while you've got time and sanity on your side.

Finding a new job while still working for the company.
If the bankruptcy news is in the open air, you can always talk with your boss about your plan. Many times they'll appreciate your sincerity/honesty and even give you a GOOD REFERENCE when needed.

Discussing with your boss the possibility of working as a contractor/ consultant after you leave the company.

Wait until they are broke and have to do layoffs. That way you can collect unemployment while you are looking for a job. Starting looking for a job soon though, being on unemployment is not a good thing to do for extended periods of time.
