I rented from a property management company that was awful. When we complained about LOUD neighbors and them throwing cigarettes on to our patio and our propane gas grill, they would send out generalized letters to the whole complex rather than directly contact the violators. Then, when we left the apartment we spent 9 hours straight cleaning it until it was spotless. It was cleaner than when we moved in. They only gave us like 100 of our 600 dollar deposit back and said the place was dirty because they found soap scum on a faucet and there was dust on a light fixture. They charged us a 35 dollar fee for each thing they had to clean (even though they were clean because I made sure of it before we left). Then they had all kinds of hidden fees tacked on. What's your horror story?

Landlord who listed a security guard as one of the benefits: It was a 70 year old perv with elephantiasis who let his friends sleep in the empty apartment above mine and then called me crazy when I called the owner about it; and the landlord who said any problems with anything, call, day or night; we have 24-hour maintenance on call. So my a/c went out on Labor Day; 102 outside; after a week, no one had fixed it, so I moved out; they wouldn't answer my calls, wouldn't talk to me about it at all... and then they tried to SUE me for the rent for that month! Oh, and there's the one who assured me the apartment was perfect, I didn't need to do a walkthrough...there were huge white paint footprints in the dark greek carpet in one bedroom, and syrup COATING the shelves in the kitchen...and no floors under either bathtub; the lights in the dining area and the master bath just buzzed and went out when you flipped the switch (they said I'd screwed in the lightbulbs too tight?!)...and after we moved out, they tried to charge ME for the carpet, and even though they returned a copy of our move-out form, said I hadn't given them any notice... oh man, there just isn't room for all these!

My first aparment had an awful landlord. She paid heat, and she would rarely ever allow it to be turned on. Furthermore, she felt it her right to call or come up any time of the day or night. She once called me at midnight. She was so intrusive and sometimes I think she would wait for me to come downstairs just to chat. But, she could never fault me for being dirty- because she was listening every time I'd clean the house, which was about 3 times a week- top to bottom. But my neighbors across the hall were filthy. The guy had just gotten out of jail, they used to fight loudly because the woman was always cheating on him, and they thought it was funny when there kids got suspended. It was awful there. I only stayed for the lease, then I was gone.

That’s a pretty good one. Here are 2 of mine. Once my land lord was also my car mechanic and I ode him rent-$700- and $600 for my car he didn’t even fix…Another time my boss at the store I worked at also owned apartments. I rented one out from him because I was moving out of a bf apt. and needed a place quick. I worked 6 days a wk but he would only give me 37 hrs a wk because he didn’t want to give me benefits. So I made about $6 hr, rent was $575…My boss would give me my check of about $200 and I would pretty much just sign it back over to him…I didn’t do that for long…I skipped town a few months later.

I feel like we have the same landlord! I live in a college town and the biggest landlord around is infamous for their behavior. One morning, around 7 or 8 o'clock, my boyfriend and I heard a knock on our BEDROOM door and we started to hear our fire alarm go off. So, my boyfriend ran to the door thinking there was a fire and someone was trying to get us out. Well, it was just one of the landlords testing the fire alarms! We were irate, to say the least. They didn't inform us that they were doing this and never even knocked on our front door. I can't wait until I move!

after our lease was up we told our landlord that we were staying (we hated the place but it was cheap) he said was fine but he kept "forgetting" the new lease. well i needed a copy to register my daughter for school, we would call him, the school called him, even the superintentant called him but he kept coming up with excuses as to why he couldn't get us the copy of new lease. We weren't able to get my daughter registered and the newspaper got involved and wrote a bunch of articles about our situation. mean time the landlord started getting alittle "crazy" and started threatening to attack my hubby with a bat cuz our address was printed & he said everyone knew him. the school finally let my daughter in (wk late) w/o lease. and the next day we were served court. our landlord SUED us for defamation of character and he said that we NEVER paid rent for the whole year we were!! but we got last laugh , the dumb b*tch must have forgotten that we paid rent w/ checks and had copies all rent , we counter sued . the judge completely humiliated our landlord and he was order to PAY US . 1500$ + our deposit!! LMAO needless to say the man went Psycho and got arrested in court. I wish we could have videotaped it. we just stood there stunned. we haven't received a dime (no surprise) but we might have have wages garnished just to make him smile :)
