Hi honey. Congratulations!
Ihave no idea what you mean by the "pregnancy diet" but pregnancy is NOT the time to be on any kind of diet, except maybe a healthy one. It is very important that you gain enough weight during this pregnancy (about 30 lbs) and there can be serious consequences if you do not. There are grave problems caused by a baby being born underweight. You sound like a tiny person so I really doubt that you are going to use this pregnancy to turn into an obese hog! In general you can and should eat what you want. Do however stay away from junk food and foods that have little or no nutritional value. Just ask yourself before you eat something whether or not it is doing anything good for your baby. If the answer is no then pass on it. Not always of course! Everyone is entitled to a hotfudge sundae once in awhile! So long as you do not make them a steady part of your diet!
You will have plenty of time to worry about losing weight after you are finished nursing your baby. Breastfeeding, BTW, burns up about 1000 calories a day for doing virtually nothing. It is the only time in your life that you will burn calories doing something that is incredibly pleasurable!
Enjoy your pregnancy and do not add this to your list of things to worry about! If you have one of those antique doctors that still thinks you should diet while you are pregnant, get rid of HIM and get a new (woman) doctor!
I just have to add, after reading some of the answers that you got, one does NOT get diabetes from poor eating habits! Please do NOT beleive that one!
Take care, feel free to write if you have any more questions.
Love and Blessings

You should eat healthy foods. There is a book what to eat when you are expecting that will help. It is amazing how much vitamins and minerals a growing fetus needs. If you eat nothing but garbage, your body is going to filter out and only give the baby the best which can not be enough. For example, if you don't eat enough folic acid you can miscarry. If you don't eat enough iron, you can have severe nosebleeds and a low blood count. None of which would be good. Stick to the healthy foods and what the doctor recommends. Besides, lack of vitamins can lead to more morning sickness as well.
If you want a healthy baby and a healthy body afterwards, carefully watch what is on your plate. I was 127 lbs when I got pregnant, I ate like a pig, ended up with toxemia, had a horrible delivery and still can't shed the 45 pounds I gained. Being overweight, I put on another 20 pounds from depression.
If you can avoid that now... please do.

You have only 40 weeks to give your baby the best start on life possible. You can pretty much eat whatever you want, but before you put that fork in your mouth, as yourself "Is this the best possible bite I can give my baby?". Remember that everything you eat - so does your baby. If the food you eat is beneficial to you and your baby then enjoy. If it only satisfies a craving or sweet tooth then seek a healthier alternative to that craving. Instead of a chocolate candy bar, try apples with cinnamon and so on. You want to make sure you have your daily requirements, and remember that not all calories are created equal. Many times it also depends on HOW you prepare your foods that matter as well. If you have boiled grean beans that have been frozen they will not be as healthy as fresh steamed ones. A great diet to follow while pregnant is the "Best Odds Diet". I am sure you can find information on the web, or from your OB. Good luck and congrats on the new addition.

I followed the pregnancy diet, plus chocolate cake. I believe it's fine. Make your own foods. You never know whats in your dessert at restaurants. For example, you can add less sugar or use healthy oils. The baby takes nutrients away from your body. If you don't eat a balanced meal, you could end up with no teeth. Make sure to also do some light exercises. It will be easier to lose the weight. Trust me on the exercise.

It's important to follow a diet plan when pregnant but that doesn't mean your limited to only those foods listed in the diet plan. You can still enjoy the foods you love you just may want to cut back on them. There are many foods that contain things that may not be good for a growing fetus but as long as it's not a daily thing, you and your baby should be just fine with an occasional slurge. It's always best to consult your doctor with questions like these if your really concerned about the effect that it may have on the baby.

It is OK to eat whatever you want but keep in mind that a lot of fast-food, candy-bars, and milkshakes will add extra pounds that you will want to lose after the baby is born. Indulge in your cravings but don't go overboard. The pregnancy diet is a good way to see if you are getting all of the nutrients you need. I never followed it but did use it as a general guideline. As long as you are taking your vitamins your body should be getting what you and the baby need.

Pregnancy is not the time to pig out. If you want your baby to be healthy, you should eat a healthy diet. If you are underweight prior to getting pregnant and want to gain more weight, then just eat more of the healthy foods. Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy, delivery and baby.

I would be careful what you eat. You dont want to gain too much weight for one its hard to lose after baby and it also increases your risk of gestational diabetes. You do need to eat, but try to eat in moderation. Your doctor will be able to keep track of that. Make sure you are taking your prenatal vitamins its good for both you and the baby. I would also recommend that you listen to your cravings, if your craving chocolate cake, by all means have some, just not the whole cake. Good Luck and congrads on your pregnancy.

You should watch what you eat. Certain types of fish -- swordfish, king mackerole, and shark contain high levels of mercury and should be avoided when pregnant. Also don't eat raw fish or eggs. Talk to your Dr., they'll give you a list of foods to avoid. Of course you shouldn't smoke or drink alcohol, but you should also avoid caffine. Make sure you take a prenatal vitamin too. You can eat most foods, but you should try to eat healthy -- a lot of fruits and veggies.

Dont pig out! The weight is too hard to lose when the baby has been born. I gained about 45lbs. and I have a small frame and it was very hard to lose the weight! Keep up any exercise (walk) that you are doing now, too.
