There's a great site with videos on basic knitting techniques like how to cast-on, how to knit & purl, and how to bind off (how to end a piece). It also has videos on more advanced techniques. Take a look--you should be able to get what you need from this site.

Also, you can get books at the library, and inexpensive "teach yourself to knit" books at wal-mart

go to wal-mart they have yarn balls..they make perfect scarfs or hats and they include a dvd how to knit..
