The female sexual cycle is a repeating process on average lasting for 28 days.
It's purpose is to;
* release a single mature ovum
* prepare the uterine endometrium for implantation
The cycle can be broken down into a number of phases...
Follicular Phase (10-16 days)
The follicular phase corresponds to the proliferative phase of the endometrium.
* The pituitary gland, located in the middle of the base of the brain, releases two hormones, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH).
* These stimulate the ovary and cause follicular growth.
* It is during the follicular phase that a cohort of eggs are recruited and begin to develop and mature inside fluid-filled follicle within the ovary.
* As these eggs develop fewer and fewer progress until only one remains.
At about days 5-7 of cycle the dominant ovarian follicle emerges and vascularity doubles for this follicle.
* The developing follicle secretes the hormone estrogen.
Ovulatory Phase (36 hours)
* The ovulatory phase begins when the level of LH surges, causing the follicle to burst and the egg to be released from the ovary.
* The fimbria of the fallopian tube sweep over the ovary and wave the egg into the fallopian tube.
* There are changes in the cervical mucus, which becomes clear and thin and increases in quantity, helping sperm through the cervical canal.
Luteal Phase (14 days)
Corresponds to the secretory phase of the endometrium.
* During the luteal phase, the follicle that produced the egg becomes a functioning gland called the corpus luteum.
* The corpus luteum produces oestrogen which continues to promote the proliferative activity in the endometrium and progesterone which prepares the uterus with the thick lining needed for implantation.
If implantation does not occur then;
* The ovum passes through the uterus,
* The corpus luteum will cease to function on about Day 26 and regress,
* There will be a rapid fall in the secretion of estrogen and progesterone,
* The endometrium shrinks due to extracellular fluid loss,
* The endometrial blood flow decreases with cell death and destruction of blood vessels,
* The uterus will then break down and shed its lining,
Menstruation (4 - 5 days)
Menses
* The menstrual bleeding as the uterus sheds the endometrium from the previous cycle.
* Blood Loss: 20-80 ml (av. 35 ml).
* Demise of corpus luteum.
* Estrogen and Progesterone withdrawal.

First they enjoy sex a lot then start getting headaches within 3 years. Every 28 days or so they lose it but a few strong ones have learned to store up that anger until you are at your weakest point then you get 3 or 4 monthly cycles worth in the space of a two hour period .
