You risk getting dirt in it. Even tiny amounts of dirt can quickly destroy a trans.
You also have a small risk of fluid being pumped out of the opening.
Replace it ASAP.

Do not drive without it. the pressure of the fluid flowing through the mechanism will force your tranny fluid out the top. You can buy a new one at any auto parts store for about $3

you don't want rian, dirt, ect. in your tranny so if you can go to a junk yard near by you can get 1 for your make & model for a couple of $$ if it's going to rain or snow were your at get a rubberband and a baggy put the baggy over the end of the tube and secure it with the rubberband till you go to a parts store maybe $5-$10 for replacement less if you go to junkyard call and do your pricing or you can find them on the net atuo parts is all you got to do the search on. now that i did your homework. git-r-dun.

you will get a verify engine easy for a fault interior the vapor restoration gadget. The verify engine easy would desire to circulate out presently when you replace the gas cap. Your motor vehicle would desire to run many times and not using a gas cap. regardless of the undeniable fact that it is going to get replaced quickly. Contaminates and moisture would desire to get into the gas gadget.

Its unlikely that you would lose fluid. However, to be on the safe side, jam a piece of cork or a piece of cloth into the hole just to be on the safe side.
