You need to decide whether you are writing a news piece or a feature.
ie Girl with body piercings gets stuck to fridge!
or Body piercings? Are they magnetising our children?
Then go and buy a newspaper and see how journalists structure these pieces. Example: health features are often built around a 'recent report'.

Start off with the most important information written as succinctly as possible. Choose your words carefully, because a lot of people don't read every word of an article. If it gets you going and makes you want to read more, then you are heading in the right direction. You get one or two clues about writing articles from the fil "All The Prsident's Men". When the two as yet unteamed reporters are preparing an article, Bernstein edits Woodward's work to put an important name at the beginning. Later, in reviewing what articles should go where in the paper, a story is mentioned about a statue and rain. Most of the editors laugh, but the chief editor says that it is the only stroy everyone will read. This suggests that you must use known information at the start of your story, and that you must make the rest of the story punchy and easy to read to maximise your readership. If what you write doesn't work, use this to teach you how reach your readership by taking their interests into account, not your own. It can be hard, but is well worth the effort. I have written a number of articles for a local newspaper and I currently edit and write news for the newsletter of a local organisation.

Have you researched your subject? Just go to your local tattoo/body piercing place and they will be more than happy to chat to you at length on their craft as I recently discovered when my friend got a tattoo and piercing in the same session (not the same place!). Take your camera or phone and take some photos if the article warrants them. Then decide what you will keep and what you wont and decide on the layout and start on a rough draft just so you know how it will read/look, etc. Were you given criteria such as font, line spacing, maximum amount of words, columns, etc? Maybe get together with some of your classmates and brainstorm off each other. Even though your articles will all be different you can each give the other hints and such as you may miss something obvious which they willpick up straight away. Good luck!

Well as with any article you need a title that will catch peoples eyes. Also remember to keep it at a 10-11th grade reading level since thats how most news papers are based. I cant help on the body peircing part but like any news paper article to get to technical.

What are your sources going to be? For example, will you interview people who have been pierce, people who do the piercing, doctors, parents, employers? Will you quote from other articles about piercing? (I think there was one in the Denver post within the last couple of weeks - you can look on their website at denverpost.com) You want to organize your thoughts about what you want to say. A good newspaper article tells all sides. Then you might want to start with something interesting that will pull your reader in like, "It's been five weeks since her piercing and Sheila Rogers is still in the hospital with a flesh eating virus" or a quote from one of the people you interview about how her piercings affect her life.
Good luck!

News articles need to answer who, what, where, when and how.
Start simply with your topic-are you doing it on how body piercing is done, that it's popular?
I write for a paper-I can help if you give me something to go on.
