...exactly who has paid and who hasn't. It doesn't make any sense.

Oh about that ad, the government now sees no reason whatsoever to deal with people on a human level. We're just an annoying inconvenience stopping them running the country effectively and so have to spoken down to by an all powerful computer.

It's so the nice Policeman can see it and they don't know! I forgot mine and three months later I told THEM and they very kindly fined me £40 for being honest!

Its all part of the Big Gov Big Brother campaign of fear. They, in the guise of the DVLA have no idea if you've paid your road tax or not. So, worry ye not. The only way the DVLA and their commandos the Fuzz, can find out if you've paid road tax or not, is to physically stop you driving your car in the street and check your disc. I saw this happen a couple of days ago near where I live. The notice at the police check-point read CENSUS. What's that supposed to mean. They also breathalysed a few people. Me, I was just walking along sucking on a can of beer. See if I care.

Most of the time the databases are not correct or updated properly.

If everybody decided not to pay, then the police would be overloaded and the system would break down. The "scary bit" is to the cut down the percentage that don't pay or forget to a manageable size.

The whole system is a farce anyway. Most of the money collected does not go for road improvement. It could be collected more efficiently with the MoT.

I forgot for three months. No consequences.

coz some dishonest people hack in2 the DVLA computer and assign themselves with a valid tax-disc, but the tax-disc they have is a virtual 1, exists on the computer system but not on the paper-work, let alone put on the windscreen of their car!
all 4 the sake of a scam and a con by criminals.

bear this in mind and knowing criminals can copy/counterfeit anything/everything.
the growing silliest 1 i've heard lately is forged milk-tokens.
milk-tokens 4 heavens sake.
my milkman's lost hundreds with them. they were sold at car-boot sales around here and were snapped up.
all over a pint of milk a day!

Exactly! They must be lying, they obviously haven't a clue who has paid and who hasn't. They are just relying on the fact that people are afraid of being caught by the big database, and the man with the scary voice.

It is to keep people in employment as all the info is known from your licence plate anyway. It is all on record and cross referenced.
When the B-liar gets us all on ID cards and they sell all the info to everbody it will mean everone knows everthing about everone and it all becomes very boring - we will have no one to talk about and not be able to invent any scandal.

They don't know. My car's been untaxed but not SORN declared ever since I got it and they've never sent me a letter about it.
