Chewing in the mouth and the enzyme amylase in our saliva which further breaks down food.
Guess we could mention the epiglottis too, which makes sure no food goes into our airpipe.

Digestion starts in the mouth , where the salivary amylase enzymes in the saliva digest starch of the food. But starch isn't completely digested in this phase , it completes it's digestion in the deudenum where the pancreas secrete pancreatic amylase to digest starch , I'm not sure if it's digested furthermore or not. the second digestion step after the salivary amylase is in the stomach , the stomach secrets protease to digest proteins... Hope that help

Digestion starts in the mouth, through saliva, which helps break down the food, along with chewing of course.

Your Eyes and nose detect the food and start the digestive process by releasing saliva. The actual break down of the food starts in your mouth by you chewing the food and your saliva breaking it down with an enzyme.

In the mouth you have mechnical / physical digestion (mastication) of all foodstuffs, and the chemical digestion (hydrolysis) of polysaccharides begins here.

In the nose. You smell the food - your salivary glands respond by producing more saliva before the food even hits your tongue.
