depends on what little one is already having?....if she is getting breast milk and want to switch to formula, the best one on the market is Enfamil Nutramigen LIPIL. If you are switching formulas ask Peds Dr first, good luck

I have a 16 week old baby and he weighs 18 lbs 10 oz. and I was wondering the same thing. I just took him in for his 4 month check up and his doctor said to hold off on the rice cereal a little longer. At first she said that I could start it around 4 months, but because he is content without it then I should wait. She asked if he was sleeping through the night because she said that he will start waking up to eat at night as soon as the formula wasn't enough. But he absolutely HAS to have the formula until he turns one. No questions asked. Babies cannot digest the cows milk and they may form an allergy to it if you give it to them too early. When you do introduce solids, start with rice cereal. Mix it with tons of water or formula until its watery. And feed him with a spoon. Don't be discouraged if he just spits it back out. Babies have to learn to get the food to the back of their mouths. It take time to learn. After he's got the hang of it, then you can start introducing other things like sweet potatoes, bananas, and stuff. But only introduce one new thing a week so if he develops an allergy, you'll know what it was that caused it. I hope this helps. Good luck and God Bless!

Wow that is a big baby. My baby boy only weighs 18 lbs and he turned a year on nov.8th. But regardless of the weight ever baby stays on formule or breast milk to a year old.
around 4-5 I introduced cearel and then juice. But not more than 4 oz's of juice a day.
Also remember, that your baby needs the fat for the brain to develop right. And after a year old when you start giving him relugar milk, he will probally lose or stop gaining as much. My sister in laws baby was huge on formula and now he is 2 years old and smaller than normal. So right now doesn't mean anything for the future weight of your baby. good luck!

u can start introducing a LITTLE bit of juice. keep in mind the baby still needs to get most of it's nutrition from breast milk or formula. You can also introduce solids by now. Rice cereal...sweet potatoes...bananas. You may want to hold off on meet for a few weeks and let them get used to the others first. But weight has nothing to do with it...adding those thinsg will make them gain more, but thats the point. If you give your baby juice, just give them a couple of ounces and mix it with water to dilute it a little bit in the beginning. and only give it to them once or twice a day. If you start giving them too much juice and not enough milk it will mess with their weght gain AND their nutrition

18 weeks? The baby should be on formula until they are 1 years old, maybe at about 11 months you can start mixing formula with some milk but definitely formula until then. It's got a lot of supplements and vitamins the baby needs!

I would only give your baby formula or breast milk. I started baby jar food around 4 or 5 months but she didn't really eat it that much. She really started to eat it around 6 months. Also that is when i started the juice but I put half water and half juice in her bottle. Don't give them just juice even if it is baby juice because of the sugar content. i would try calling the doctor or nurse and ask what you should feed your baby since he/she is 18lbs. Just to be safe though i would only try formula or breast milk for now.

Weight is irrelevant when feeding a child (and I hope you mean breast milk or formula because *no* child under 1 should be having cow milk).
I believe the general consensus is that children shouldn't start their first foods until at least 6 months, and then of course it's the pureed foods.

Really, you need to talk to the pediatrician. 18 lbs is decent size at 18 weeks. I don't remember how big my 2nd was at 18 weeks, but I know our pediatrician put her on a TINY bit of rice cereal because her growth was insane. The rice cereal filled her a little bit better. DO NOT do this without the pediatrician's OK first. Babies often can become allergic to foods prior to 12 months old, from constant exposure...even something as simple as rice cereal.

It doesn't matter how much they weight. They are supposed to stay on formula at least until they are a year. You can do it at 11 months.
Babies are supposed to stay on formula b/c of all the vitamins that are in it.
Why do you want to try something new anyway? B/c of the weight? If so, consult with your doctor and they can put the baby on a diet.

yes, way too early, the baby needs to develop more before introducing solids. He is just a big baby, with a good appetite.
