Did you adopt your stepdaughter? Were you appointed guardian over her by the court? If not, I don't see where you would have any legal responsibility.

Please give some more background.

There is no legal responsibility however there is a moral one which is if you are all living together as a family the age is 18 in uk. Any child/step child is a parents/step parents responsibility until 18 years of age. The courts may argue that you are legal responsible if you have brought her up over a period of time.

These are legal responsibilities parents:
As a parent you have two major responsibilities. They are:
1. to support your child by providing him or her with the necessities of life; and
2. to supervise and control your child.

The necessities of life are more than just food, shelter, and clothing. They also include medical care, an education, and legal help when required. Your failure to provide the necessities of life for your child may lead to your criminal prosecution for neglect.
The duty to support your child lasts until he or she reaches the age of majority, which is 18, or 19 if he or she is still enrolled in high school.
A step-parent is generally not required to support a step-child. The natural parents of the child remain responsible for child support unless the child has been adopted by the step-parent.

I would think 18, but is she still in school? That may have something to do with it too. But what legal responsibilities do you have, you clothe and feed her and a roof over her head. If she gets into trouble, she's responsible for herself. She knows what she is doing at that age and there is very little you can do to change her mind when she wants to do something. I guess you didn't ask all this...sorry, just not enough info.

Legal responsibilities?

OK Fred. You are a typical asshole step dad. If you are worried about the legalities involved with your stepdaughter then you may as well "step" right out of her life right now. Apparently you really don't care about her as a person and part of your life even if she is a "step" daughter. If you were a decent person (man, father) you wouldn't even have that question in your mind.

You have no "legal" responsibilities to a stepchild. the natural parents do. Unless you assumed custody of her. But, since she is a part of your hubby, then you have "marital" responsibilities. I have 3 stepchildren and 2 stepgrandchildren, I consider them as much my own as my own children. I help them any way i can, so does my hubby. They are just as much my responsibility as they are his, mine are just as much his responsibility as they are mine. That's just something that comes with the marriage.

Unless you have adopted her, you are not "legally" responsible for her at all. It is the responsibility of her "natural" parents.
