Isn't honesty what we're looking for when we ask questions?

Yes ware looking for honesty, but people lie and when they lie they don't tell you "I am going to lie to you," they just lie and don't tell you they are doing it.

When people say "to be honest." they want you to be sure and clear that what they are saying is not a lie. They know that they could easily tell you a lie and you would not know the difference, but they want to make sure you know they are telling the truth.

Beware the answer that begins with "to be honest", it usually means that the person responding is either lying, or doesn't really know the answer.

to be honest: to me means someone is about to lie.

frankly, cindy, i don't know why they would do that. and, yes, we are looking for honesty here.
