but the primate was declined olympic status due to it being a Chimpanzee and if it had gone it could well have won the first Gold Medal for Rwanda.

Its funny you should raise this point Peter J as during my Law degree one of the area I specialised in was sports and this case was actually brought to the attention of the Olympic governing body. I believe the claim was that he should have been allowed to enter as there was no specific legislation about the use of primates. However this was rejected.

I be live the jump was a whopping 22.375 meters and has never been beaten since by man or other primates. I read somewhere that the monkey is a hero in his village and travels around the world performing this spectacular feat.

Hope this helps

You are an idiot about the first gold medal for Rwanda, and trying to get people upset in here.
I'm full of useless facts on the Olympics/trcak & field and I see no where anything about this that you are speaking of.

but it may have been some kind of promotional event. Athletes have been know to compete a particular animal that some how has to do with their event. Sometimes it purely a way to make money after being out of the sport. Ben Johnson once ran against a horse and a race car. Carl Lewis once ran against a cheetah, I think maybe the monkey could do high jump instead of triple, a knagaroo can go against a long jumper

I get the feeling that this is a racist commemt. Not very nice. I will add to my answer in responce to your comment. Compareing a chimpanzee to Jonathan Edwards is a slam on him. Any intelligent person would know a chimp can't jump as far as a man. I will stick with my original answer. Not very nice

Peter, you need help. A Black person must have violated you at some point in your life that is why you choose this kind of retaliation. Get help. Jonathan Edwards is a great athlete, furthermore, a better human being. I do not think he would appreciate being associated with such sick retohric.

If You allow animals to partake in the Olympics they would win every gold except the one in chess! Imagine a cheetah on the 100 meters...

I doubt it happened. However if it did, a nice banana flavoured medal would be nice.
