By a much LARGER margin than Bush? And don't tell me that Bush didn't have the popular vote...I already know that. But do you think it would have even been close?

I supported Elizabeth Dole. I was appalled at the treatment she received by Republicans, particularly her own husband.
Could she have beaten Gore? We will never know.
She certainly could have captured the moderate vote, as her experience lay in humanitarianism, rather than politics, as the head of the Red Cross.
I was disappointed in my fellow Republicans over this.

What an interesting question!!! Too bad I can't do it justice with a good answer.
I don't know enough about her. And I don't believe she was a senator yet, but I could be wrong.
I'll take a shot in the dark and say that she would have done better than Bush, if for no other reason than she would not have slacked off campaigning the last week like Bush did, and there would have been no DWI to come out days before the election. (A dirty trick? I think not - Bush knew it was there, and in fact "earned" it! A dirty trick would have been to dump a phony arrest into the public discourse, like the National Guard letter.) Bush almost blew the whole thing, while Gore came on strong the last few days. I remember it well! I didn't vote for either of them . . .
PS My answer assumes, of course, that she would have received the nomination, and the same general support Bush received. We'll never know, but again the question gets the ol' grey matter working!

Why even ponder this? It isn't worthy of thought or debate, really. There are too many real, current issues that require attention.
IMO, Elizabeth Dole needs to stop turning every interview panel into a one-mouth filibuster. Poor Bob!

I wish Bush would have picked her for his Vice President.
She could have beat Gore. Anyone could have. He is a wimp.

Elizabeth Dole is not nearly as popular as you seem to think. Gore would have beat her, too, and by such a margin that it would not have been possible for the GOP to steal the election.

No, if she couldn't win the nomination I don't think she could win the election. But really who cares...Bush is the President now and we have to deal with the consequences of his policies.

She had the money.
Her Red Cross job paid $75M a year, for 5 years. That's not bad for a middle aged woman with a blank job history line on her resume.
Don't you just love the Plutocrats?
